Women

Women of Leon County's
Black Townships

Women shaped the survival, wellness, education, and spiritual life of Leon County’s historic Black communities. Midwives, herbalists, educators, caregivers, and faith leaders carried knowledge systems that sustained families across generations—often without formal recognition in traditional archives.

LCHS preserves women’s histories through oral histories, community records, family memory, and land-based traditions.
